Take your dog to a vet and get him his shots. That is very important. Your dog should be going to the vet once a year for booster shots and a checkup too.

Look up a vet in the yellow pages!

Take him to a vet for his shots, then you will be able to get him groomed. Some vets have groomers on site.

i used to have a chow chow and although you should get your dogs shots i dont think to have him groomed you need to. i dont know where you live but i do know that petco does grooming and i think they have petco in a variety of states. maybe check if you have a petco near you. also i would get your dog its shots as soon as possible so your dog doesnt become ill and cost you more money than the shots will.

Find a local vet and make an appointment to get his shots....the local vet in my area also does nail clipping...so you could ask about that too....look for a local goomer....yellowpages.com would be a place to start.....the two most important issues are shots and nails....not having their nails done can be very painful for your dog...and if they've not been done for 2 years.....there is a chance they are growing into the pads of his feet...poor guy...get him taken care of quickly!

He will need to get his shots before a groomer will take him. He should have his shots everytime regardless though. You can do the grooming at your house too if you don't want to spend the money on a groomer since you will be shelling out for the shots and everything.

Your dog needs to go to the vet first. If your dog is almost 2 years old, you really need to get on the ball! Your dog should have been having regular vet visits from the time you got him.

Most groomers (good ones, at least) require at least some of the vaccinations. Rabies vaccinations are required by law (or a titer exam done usually every 6-12 months to prove immunization ... however, if your dog has never had a vaccine, it will NOT be immune to any disease yet). Any groomer that does not require vaccinations is not a groomer you want to use.

Some areas offer free vaccination clinics through the township or county, but you'll have to research that with the town/city in which you live. The easiest way, however, is to call a local vet and make an appointment ASAP. The longer your dog does not have vaccines, the more susceptible he is to contracting an illness.

Also remember, if you have a Chow Chow who has not been groomed in 2 years, you're likely going to be in for quite a time at the groomer! Chances are, he will not be very well-behaved (and since Chows already have a bad reputation with pet care professionals for being aggressive, you may even have a hard time finding a groomer to get the job done, or even attempt it). Chances are, also, that he'll have a lot of work to be done, may have to be shaved down short, and you'll be paying a fortune, most likely. Be prepared for it, because it's likely to happen. Getting your dog on a regular, frequent professional grooming schedule will help alleviate these problems over time.

Good luck!

First you need to get all his shots. Then the grooming. I was just on the site for pets ,general and your looking for a female chow of a differant color. There you stated your dog was only 1. You need to take care of the dog you have before getting more or even think about breeding.

See if you can find a small grooming shop. The bigger shops have so much commotion going on that takes the dogs attention away from his grooming and will cause the groomer a lot of trouble.

As a groomer I have done a lot of chow chows. I specialized in behavioral problems and was able to do dogs that other groomers deemed aggressive and biters. I did one chow that the Vet wanted me to do in his clinic under anesthesia cause he was highly aggressive when they were treating a hot spot. Said that it took three men just to control the dog while they treated him. The owners had two chows and had brought the little one to me to give a lion clip to. While they were here I ask them to bring their bad boy in to see if he would co-operate with me. Bless, his little heart he never growled, never snarled and co-operated with the whole process without incident.

The shots are important so be sure to get them. But do try to find a small shop that has the time and does not have 5 to 10 groomers and 20 to 30 dogs a day. It will be much easier for your dog. Ask if you can stay with him while he gets clipped. Sometimes it makes it easier and sometimes owner presence causes the dog to think that you will save him and cause more of a problem if you weren't there.

You need to find a veterinary hospital and make an appointment for your dogs vaccinations. They will start out with boosters since your dog has had no shots , you wll have to bring your dog back for the other boosters and you can't get the dog groomed until all boosters are given. Your vet will give you a certificate for rabies you keep this in a place where you can always find it to show the groomers and you will need a certificate for kennel cough vaccination also for the groomers. Then you can make an appointment at the groomer at petco or petsmart. Call petco or petsmart and ask them how long do you have to wait after the vaccinations are given to groom them.
